With over 12 years of teaching Iyengar Yoga, Reiki, and Doula experience under her belt, Skjei has an applied knowledge of human physiology coupled with a developed understanding of the mind-body connection. Skjei has an individualized and intuitive approach towards healing. She works with people of all ages and genders, with a focus on women and children’s health.
Iyengar Yoga is a regimented form of Yoga studies with a focus on alignment, based on Dr. BKS Iyengar’s work. To reach Certification at the Introductory I Level, students have a minimum study of three years with a Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher prior to consideration. Skjei holds Intermediate Junior II Certification, the fourth level of Certification and is one of the top three highest Certified Iyengar Teachers in Calgary. Regular travels to Pune, India enable instructors to advance and refine their practice and teaching through studies directly with BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and Prashant Iyengar. Skjei continues studies within Canada with Senior Iyengar Teachers; Shirley Daventry-French, Marlene Mawhinney, Margot Kitchen and Marlene Miller.
As a Reiki Healer, Skjei works to restore energy to areas in an individual that are depleted or disrupted by illness. When connecting with the energetic body of her clients, Skjei can identify these areas and initiate the return of energetic health and vibrancy. A compliment to this intuitive practice, Skjei also works in the field of Ayurvedic Medicine. Practiced in India for over 3000 years, it is a time-tested approach to healing that views the body as a whole and works to bring all systems of the body into balance. It uses personalized diets, nutritional counselling, herbal formulas, yoga, and relaxation techniques to correct imbalances that manifest as disease and discomfort in the body. By determining a person’s “dosha” or constitution, Ayurvedic medicine can prescribe remedies that resume that person to a balanced state.
Ayurvedic medicine is especially effective for treating a variety of conditions, including
immune system function
weight loss and management
skin and hair disorders
women’s sexual and reproductive issues

In 1997, Andrew Hookey was drawn from his native England by the majestic beauty of the Rocky Mountains, the pristine open space of Canada, and a girl. He married the girl (and the mountains) and decided to stay.
Always fit and active, he discovered Yoga and quickly embraced the physical and mental challenge of the discipline. He’d like to say that everything he learned about Yoga, he learned from his many cats. But in truth, he is quick to credit the inspired mentorship of Melisa and Maggie Kavanagh.
In December 2007, Andrew completed his 500 hour, 2 year teacher training and Yoga philosophy studies certification through the South Okanagan Yoga Association (SOYA). Andrew also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics and a Master’s degree in Aeronautics and Space engineering. Back here on earth, Yoga Haven, Calgary is his teaching home.
